Term 2 - Reflections
(Sunday, August 28, 2011) (8:35 AM)
This term was more monotonous as we did not do anything interesting. Many days were wasted too, due to the many public and school holidays. This term we learnt how to carry out experiments. One example was how we learnt separate a mixture of sulphur powder and iron filings. We first had to use a magnet to separate the iron filings from the sulphur powder. We could do this due to the characteristics of the element, it is magnetic. This was one of the easier experiments we did. However, the one experiment that left a deep impression on me is 1P7 Measurement of time- Pendulum. We had  to swing a pendulum to and fro and record the amount of time taken  for it to swing back and forth 10 times. We measured it with different lengths ad compared. Me and my partner, Jeremiah faced a big problem which was dropping the pendulum bob exactly at the time where we started the stopwatch, sometimes the bob also hit many things around us causing the results to be inaccurate.
